Team ROCCAT Roster 2018 Spring

Team ROCCAT is a European esports organization formed by German peripherals company ROCCAT. In January 2014 the company formed its first directly sponsored esports team, when they acquired the full roster of Kiedyś Miałem Team.

History[]

ROCCAT originally started by sponsoring a number of professional eSports organizations that possessed professional League of Legends teams, such as Quantic Gaming, against All authority and mortal Teamwork. However, in late 2013, ROCCAT announced their intentions to directly sponsor a professional League of Legends roster, after seeing the booming success of the competitive League. Their eyes quickly turned to Kiedyś Miałem Team, an un-sponsored Polish group which had just qualified for the Season 4 European Championship Series after an impressive 3-0 sweep executed against the heavy favorites Ninjas in Pyjamas. The deal was finalized on January 13, 2014, with Riot Games officially recognizing Team ROCCAT as the organization that would be competing in the European LCS.

2014 Season[]

The Spring Split was a huge success for the team. Impressive early split performances saw both Overpow and VandeR pick up a weekly MVP award each. ROCCAT spent 3 weeks at the top of the standings table mid-split, but results tailed off slightly towards the end of the split. The team ended up finishing 4th behind Alliance, securing themselves a spot in the Spring Playoffs.

ROCCAT performed well in the Spring Playoffs, but lost to SK Gaming in the semifinals. The team went on to finish in 3rd place after beating Alliance in the third-place match.

The Summer Split was a struggle for ROCCAT, with the team not once making it out of the bottom 3 of the standings table. A frustrating few weeks at the start of the split were followed by an overall improvement in the team's performances. Both Overpow and Jankos picked up a weekly MVP award during this period. Despite their struggles, ROCCAT placed 6th overall, clinching a place at the Summer Playoffs.

The playoffs saw the team raise their game considerably. A quarterfinal win over SUPA HOT CREW resulted in a semifinal matchup against Fnatic. The series was unexpectedly tight, with ROCCAT coming close but eventually losing 3-2 and missing out on qualification for the World Championship. A third-place match loss against SK Gaming meant that ROCCAT finished 4th overall.

2015 Season[]

On November 10, it was announced that the team was moving to Berlin (it had earlier been announced that the LCS studios were moving from Cologne to Berlin[1]).[2]

When Fnatic were unable to attend IEM Cologne, ROCCAT took their place with Overpow moving to top lane and Ryu filling in as a temporary substitute player for the mid lane; this made their roster Overpow, Jankos, Ryu, Woolite, and VandeR. The team were knocked out in the semifinals, losing to Counter Logic Gaming.

Team ROCCAT had an unsuccessful LCS Spring Split, finishing the regular season in 8th place, which meant that they would play in the Summer Promotion. Here, the team faced Copenhagen Wolves Academy and came out victorious, securing their spot in the Summer Split.

The Summer Split itself was far more successful for the team, finishing the regular season in 5th place partly thanks to Nukeduck's impressive performances on a range of champions. This meant they would qualify for the Summer Playoffs, where the team were beaten in the quarterfinals by Unicorns Of Love, meaning that they would pick up 20 Championship Points and go on to play in the 2015 Season Europe Regional Finals. Team ROCCAT went on to lose to eventual qualifiers Origen in Round 2 of the gauntlet.

2016 Season[]

On December 8 2015, it was announced that Nukeduck had left Team ROCCAT, and that MrRalleZ and Steve would be loaned out to an unnamed Challenger team.[3] Just a week later, long-time members Jankos and VandeR left the team after almost two years, forcing ROCCAT to field a completely new roster in 2016.[4] In January, head coach YamatoCannon left to join Splyce.[5]

On January 5, Team ROCCAT announced their new roster for 2016 with former SK Gaming toplaner fredy122, former Copenhagen Wolves jungler Airwaks, former Gambit midlaner Betsy, former Renegades AD Carry Jebus, who renamed to Safir, and former Gambit support Edward. For their coaching staff, ROCCAT signed former LDLC jungler ImSoFresh as head coach and former Gambit analyst Moo as head analyst.[6]

Spring EU LCS[]

ROCCAT had an abysmal showing in the 2016 Spring EU LCS, resulting in several mid-split roster swaps. Safir was swapped out for former Elements AD carry Tabzz, formerly of Elements, while Edward was replaced by Extinkt, who had been on a two-year hiatus from professional League of Legends.[7][8] Continuing to slide, ROCCAT replaced Extinkt with NoXiAK and head coach ImSoFresh with Grabbz after only a few weeks.[9] Throughout the tumultuous period of replacements, ROCCAT earned only four wins throughout the split and ended in ninth place at 4-14.

By finishing in the bottom three of the standings, ROCCAT was required to compete in the Summer Promotion tournament to retain their LCS position. Although ROCCAT maintained their spot by defeating Huma 3-1, they again turned to overhauling the roster before the next split. ROCCAT contracted former Fnatic and Unicorns of Love player Steeelback, as well as Parang and Raise ofChallengers Korea team Stardust to be its starting AD carry, top laner, and support, respectively.[10][11]

Summer EU LCS[]

The EU LCS transitioned to a double Best-of-2 format in Summer 2016.[12] Although ROCCAT managed to achieve a higher game win percentage this split, the team managed to win only two series and finish in last place with a 2-6-10 series record. The late-season replacement of Airwaks by challenger hopeful Memento unfortunately did not serve to improve ROCCAT's competitive standing.[13] Again with a bottom-of-the-barrel finish, ROCCAT would compete in the next season's Promotion tournament.

After falling to within one game of relegation against Millenium, ROCCAT rebounded and defeated Millenium and fellow EU LCS team FC Schalke 04 to stay in the EU LCS. Soon after the promotion tournament, Parang, Memento, Steeelback, and Raise, departed the roster, and ROCCAT again needed to procure a new roster before the following split. Those players would be found in former Giants Gaming jungler Maxlore, former H2k AD carry Hjarnan, and challenger team top laner Phaxi and support Wadid.[14] The only constant member throughout 2016 and into 2017 was ROCCAT's mid laner, Betsy.

2017 Season[]

Spring Split[]

Team ROCCAT was drafted into Group A of the reorganized Spring Split of the 2017 EU LCS. Their fellow group members were Giants Gaming, Fnatic, Misfits, and 2016 Spring and Summer champions G2 Esports.[15] After a horrible start losing their first 7 matches they turned it around winning their remaining 6 matches even upsetting the previously unbeaten G2 Esports in week 10 but missed out on 3rd place of the group which would have qualified them for playoffs by a game score difference of 1.

Summer Split[]

Because Maxlore decided to go to Misfits during midseason they signed rookie Pridestalker from Misfits Academy and were once again drafted into group A with G2, Fnatic, Misfits, and promoted team Ninjas in Pyjamas. They ended the Summer Split once again in 4th place of their group, missing out on playoffs and ending their season early once more.

2018 Season[]

Spring Split[]

Going into the 2018 Season they rebuilt their roster completely with a mixture of experienced players Blanc, Memento, and HeaQ and prospects in rookie Norskeren and Profit who was substitute toplaner for SK Telecom T1. In a close race for playoffs they ended the Spring Split in 6th place due to H2H in a 3-way-tie at 8-10 for 5th. Their first playoff in almost 3 years ended quickly though as they were swept 0-3 by Splyce.

Summer Split[]

For the first time in 4 years they managed to keep the their roster between splits and despite having similar results as in Spring the less evenly spread competition meant that their 7-11 record was not enough to reach playoffs which also meant that they did not accumulate enough Championship points to qualify for Regional Finals.

After they were not accepted as one of the franchised teams for the 2019 Season of the rebranded LEC, Team ROCCAT disbanded.
