Biography[]
Alexey "Alex Ich" Ichetovkin hails from Kamenka, Russia. He has been a part of the League of Legends scene since 2009.
Pre-Season 2[]
Alex Ich started dabbling in playing competitively in 2010, joining various teams, including Dimegio Club (who were later acquired by SK Gaming), Liquicity, myRevenge after their main lineup was picked up by Fnatic, and MTG, where he met future teammates Darien and Genja. Alex started making headway though in the scene when he joined Team Empire as their mid player in October 2011. They won the IEM Season VI Qualifiers and were invited to IEM Kiev; in the qualifier, in a game against SK Gaming, Empire became famous for a combination of area-of-effect ultimates including Nunu's Absolute Zero.[20]
Season 2[]
Alex and the rest of Team Empire - Darien, Diamondprox, Genja, and GoSuPepper (who would later rename to EDward) - were recruited by organization Moscow Five in December 2011. Their first major appearance was at IEM Kiev, where they made an international name for them selves by undefeated in group stage against Dignitas, against All authority, and Sypher and then beating SK Gaming and Team SoloMid to win the tournament; the only game they dropped in their entire tournament run was to TSM.[21][22]
After IEM, Moscow Five competed in the online Kings of Europe tournament. Again they had an undefeated group stage, though this time they lost to Counter Logic Gaming EU in the finals after a semi-final win over Team Sypher.[23][24]
Moscow Five's next tournament was the IEM World Championship in Hanover, which they also won, this time one-upping their IEM Kiev performance by going undefeated.[25] Later tournament results included second-place finishes in the online Corsair Vengeance Cup and offline at DreamHack Summer 2012, both of which were won by CLG.EU. They got their revenge at European Challenger Circuit: Poland, which they won with a 2-0 finals victory over CLG.EU.[26] At the Season Two Regional Finals, M5 qualified for the Season 2 World Championship with the top seed from Europe after defeating EloHell, Fnatic, and SK Gaming.[27]
At Worlds, Moscow Five were considered by many analysts to be the favorites to win the entire event.[28] Due to their regional final victory, the team had a group stage bye and then beat Invictus Gaming in the quarterfinals 2-0, with strong midgame play. However, after winning game 1 in the semifinals against Taipei Assassins, M5 dropped the series 1-2 and finished the tournament in 3rd-4th; TPA went on to win the entire event.
Pre-Season 3[]
After Worlds, Moscow Five placed fourth at the European tournament Tales of the Lane before flying to Shanghai to attend the TGA Winter 2012 event; they didn't participate in the tournament itself, but they played and won show matches against Team WE and Invictus Gaming and interacted with fans, hoping to boost their Chinese popularity.[29][30] Upon leaving China, the team flew to Las Vegas to attend IPL 5, where they placed fourth, once again eliminated from a tournament by the Taipei Assassins, this time in an 0-2 loss despite Alex Ich farming to a 538 creep score in the first game.
In January 2013, due to Moscow Five's CEO having been arrested in July of the previous year and leaving the organization with a lack of funding, the League of Legends roster was released.[31][32] Four days later, on January 14, the team joined Gambit Gaming.
The team's first event under the name Gambit Gaming was IEM Katowice, where they continued their history of strong finishes at IEM events and won, notably beating both Azubu Frost and Azubu Blaze in the bracket stage after advancing from the group stage due to a game-length-based tiebreaker. That victory also gave them a seed into the Season VII World Championship in Hanover.
Season 3[]
Moscow Five's Season 2 Worlds attendance granted the roster a seed into Riot's new professional league for Season 3, the European League of Legends Championship Series, despite the roster's organizational switch. They dominated the 10-week regular season with a 21-7 overall record and then finished second in the playoffs behind Fnatic. Partway through the season, they attended IEM Hanover, where they placed third after a semifinal loss to CJ Entus Frost. They also played at the 2013 MLG Winter Championship exhibition tournament, where they placed second.
After the end of the LCS Spring Split, Alex Ich was publicly voted to represent Europe at the All-Star tournament. Teammates Diamondprox, Genja, and Edward were also voted in by the region, but due to a rule requiring that only up to three members of a single team could be voted into the tournament, Yellowpete from Evil Geniuses replaced Genja; sOAZ from Fnatic was the top laner. The European team placed last out of the five regions' teams in attendance. In the 1v1 skill competition for mid lane, Alex Ich beat scarra and then lost to Misaya.
In the summer season of the LCS, Gambit finished in fourth place with a 15-13 record in the round robin and then in third place in the playoffs, which was sufficient to send them to Worlds. At Worlds, Gambit made it out of groups in second place with a 5-3 record after beating Samsung Ozone in a tie breaker; however, they were eliminated in the first round of the bracket by NaJin Black Sword.
2014 Season[]
Alex Ich remained with Gambit for the Spring Split, but after a fifth-place finish in the playoffs, he left, citing the need for the team to travel between Russia and Cologne on a weekly basis as being draining on his family life.
2015 Preseason[]
Alex Ich briefly joined RoX in November 2014, but he left shortly after.[33]
2015 Season[]
Alex Ich joined Team 8 as a substitute player in January, moving to North America. Following that, he joined BrawL's North American roster with the rest of the then Challenger team We Love Shakira. [34] However, he didn't arrive to the United States in time for the first round of the NACS 2015 Spring Qualifier, and BrawL lost to Darkness and were eliminated from the tournament.
Alex Ich later formed a Challenger team called Misfits, along with crumbzz and Remilia. RF Legendary and Intense later joined after a tryout.[35] Misfits won the AlphaDraft Challenger League and then participated in was the NACS Summer Qualifier, where they dropped only one game in their three series to qualify for the Summer Season. After qualifying, Misfits rebranded as Renegades.
Additionally, Alex Ich substituted for Team Dragon Knights on two separate occasions in the spring: first, in week 5 of the NACS Spring Season, and later to help them qualify for the LCS Summer Split with a 3-1 victory over Winterfox in the summer promotion tournament.
Alex Ich returned to Renegades for the Challenger Series regular season, and they finished the round robin with an 8-2 record and in second place, after losing a tiebreaker to Team Coast. However, in the playoffs, they defeated Imagine 2-1 and then Coast 3-2, sending them directly to the 2016 NA LCS Spring Season.
2016 Season[]
Renegades was faced with significant roster instability in the spring season, as first AD carry Freeze was unable to play for three games early on in the split, and then Remilia stepped down one game after his return. RF Legendary was also replaced by Flaresz for three games later on. In week 7, Team Dragon Knights's top laner Seraph was loaned to Renegades as a substitute, and the team snapped their 12-game losing streak. Going into the eighth week, Renegades and TDK traded several players, with Seraph and Ninja joining Renegades as top and mid laner, respectively, while RF Legendary, Flaresz, and Alex Ich departed in time for the NACS Spring Playoffs.
After a first-round victory over Ember, TDK lost to Apex Gaming in the NACS finals, netting themselves the bottom seed into the Summer Promotion Tournament. The team first swept Team Dignitas but then lost to Alex Ich's former team Renegades and to Apex Gaming once again, falling short of the LCS.
On May 8, 2016, Riot released a competitive ruling stating that they had investigated the relationship between TDK and Renegades and found an inappropriate link between the two organizations, with the March roster trade and the sources of financial compensation to the players after the trade being one of the major problems. As a result of their findings, Riot ruled that TDK would be banned permanently from Riot-sponsored league play, and Chris Shim and Sean Shim would individually be indefinitely banned from serving in official capacity to an organization involved in official Riot league play.[36] Alex Ich left the team and joined Team EnVyUs as a substitute mid laner for the summer split but did not start in any games for them.
2017 Season[]
Alex Ich remained with EnVy as a substitute for the 2017 season and was unexpectedly pressed into service for Week 1 of the spring split, as visa issues for starting jungler Lira had forced the team to use mid laner Ninja as a jungler for the first week. EnVy lost all four games that Alex Ich played in, and although he remained with the team for the rest of 2017, he was not called upon again. Aside from a brief stint playing in the summer challenger series qualifiers, this was Alex Ich's last competitive experience, and he eventually announced his retirement to become a streamer.
