v7.18
Frostfang now has cooldown reduction, Frost Queen’s Claim build path adjusted to compensate. Tribute lockout for last-hitting a minion increased.
We haven’t seen much of the Spellthief’s line since we made Ancient Coin an actually-appealing item earlier in the season. This is less about Coin and more about Spellthief’s: the line just isn’t doing its job of enabling early aggression. We’re moving the cooldown reduction of Frostfang’s upgrades onto Frostfang itself, making it a more potent laning threat. This has the side effect of unlocking more build flexibility: sitting on Frostfang in the midgame will be less punishing for supports who’d rather start building into their late-game oriented items. That said, the Spellthief’s line has historically been vulnerable to midlane poaching when strong. We’re upping the Tribute penalty for last-hitting to nip that problem in the bud.

BUILD PATH : | Frostfang + | [Fiendish Codex + 450 gold] | |
⇒ | Blasting Wand + 500 gold (total cost unchanged) |
The whole point of the lockout on Spellthief’s Edge is to prevent champions from both farming waves and using the gold item - at least without some tradeoff. However, it was also punishing supports too harshly when they happened to kill a minion while poking. We’re shifting the mechanic so that minion kills may harm your overall Tribute output, but won’t stop you from using any Tribute stacks you already had.
Tribute passive
Most mage supports already churn out pretty decent damage (looking at you, Zyra/Brand), so rather than give them more damage as a quest reward, we wanted to give them something that feels distinct from the mid lane experience. Extra mobility gives them a tool to dance in and out of fights, giving them a unique reason to be played as supports, rather than mid laners.

v6.13
Killing pets no longer puts Tribute on cooldown.
Spellthief’s Edge offers you a tradeoff: don’t farm and you can build up gold by trading with your opponents. Much like with Relic Shield, pets were disrupting Spellthief’s tradeoff as well.
v6.1
Mana regen down, CDR up.

v5.22
somebody's watchin' me
Below are the three 'Eyestones', so let's cover the context all in one go, shall we? In contrast to Ruby Sightstone above, these Eyestones (built from combining Sightstone and your Tier 2 support item) give you the option to choose between the synergies of a Ruby + Tier 3 'active' build or an Eyestone, nixing the power of your Tier 3 in favor of more selfish items down the road. It's a tough question, and one supports will need to constantly evaluate on the fly with the departure of 'Stealth Ward stacking' as a viable progression path. All Eyestones keep their gold generation passives, making them the economic choice if you're looking to rush any particular item for your composition.
