Play-In[edit]

The play-in is a new phase of Worlds introduced in 2017 and consists of 12 teams. Four are fixed: the third-place team from China, Europe, LMS, and North America. The other 8 come from Brazil, CIS, Japan, LAN, LAS, Oceania, SEA, and Turkey.

Group Stage[edit]

Pool 1[edit]

As in 2017, this pool consists of the #1 seed from each of the top 4 regions at MSI.

Pool 2[edit]

Pool 2 contains the #3 seed from Korea, the #2 seeds from Korea, China, Europe, LMS, and North America; the #1 seed from the worst-performing region at MSI out of those 5 regions; and the #1 seed from Vietnam.

Pool 3[edit]

Pool 3 contains the 4 teams that advance to the group stage from the play-in.

Example[edit]

1 Korea #1, China #1, Europe #1, North America #1
2 Korea #2, Korea #3, China #2, North America #2, Europe #2, LMS #1, LMS #2, Vietnam #1

This is a hypothetical example for purposes of illustration.
