2014 Spring Promotion Matchup Preview - SUPA HOT CREW XD vs SK Gaming

The second day of reckoning has come. On the onset of the victory of Copenhagen Wolves over MeetYourMakers, two teams face the prospect of relegation to the Challenger circuit, as Ninjas in Pyjamas and SK Gaming prepare to face Kiedyś Miałem Team and SUPA HOT CREW XD respectively.

In today's article, we will be looking into the SUPA HOT CREW XD vs. SK Gaming matchup. The two teams are on the rise in the Challenger scene, but there can only be one. Who will it be?

Impaler Matthew Taylor 90Sub/Jungle

SUPA HOT CREW XD's tale is one of hard labor and hustle, as the team participated in the two WellPlayed EU SPQ Qualifiers. The team failed in its first attempt with Svenskeren and fredy122 on board, but they hit gold on the next one with a 2-0 result over Team Dignitas UK.

A few days before the 2014 Season Promotion Group Stages, SHC made changes to the lineup, swapping k0u (underage) and Syrela (team decision), for Impaler (a substitute prior) and Mimer. Having practiced on their own time made their 3-2 finish even more surprising, as they edged out wins against established Challenger teams KMT and TCM-Gaming on their way to the offline event.

SHC is familiar with two of the five SK Gaming players they will face, as fredy122 and Svenskeren joined the SK Gaming roster after leaving SHC. The two teams have met before and SK Gaming prevailed. Will SHC avenge that loss with their kill-centric playstyle, knocking SK Gaming's rebuilding efforts out of the LCS?

SK Gaming once had an established seat in Europe's Top 4, but they tumbled down the ranks in the Summer Split. SK's management decided to radically change the team, and only the bottom lane remains intact. Fresh blood joined the SK gaming house, but only fresh to the SK roster, as fredy122 and Svenskeren bring top lane experience and sharp jungle play from having played in the professional scene before.

The team also brought talented, yet inexperienced mid-laner Jesiz into their ranks. Jesiz's online appearances showed great promise, but shaking off stage fright was no easy task. However, the mid-laner adapted fast to the circumstances, following up his struggle at IEM Cologne with a DreamHack Winter 2013 victory.

SK Gaming had to choose between the Copenhagen Wolves and SUPA HOT CREW XD, and they chose the latter. A past confrontation between the two teams favored SK Gaming, but SHC's roster changed since then. Will they reproduce an earlier victory in a best-of-5 setting on Saturday?

Matchups:

Top Lane: Mimer vs. fredy122

Two names frequently induce cold shivers in the top lane due to their dominance at the role: fredy122 and Jwaow. Even still, fredy122's small champion pool may prove to be a problem as he faces his opponent, Mimer--one of the most mechanically gifted players in EU, though still new to the LAN environment.

Mid Lane: Moopz vs. Jesiz

Moopz's control mages will clash with Jesiz's diverse champion pool. Orianna and Gragas may be contested picks in the mid lane. Jesiz sometimes goes to the wild side, but stage anxiety will definitely be a factor for both.

Jungle: Impaler vs. Svenskeren

Svenskeren proved he could play at a high level during the Spring Split, and is one of the better junglers in EU. However, Impaler's interventionist mindset may give him a hard time.

Bot Lane (ADC/Support): Haydal/Migxa vs. CandyPanda/Nyph

Haydal and Migxa tend to tread on a very risky path, but they're extremely prone to snowball when it works out. CandyPanda and Nyph have been around for years and know what needs to be done.
