Azubu Blaze, formerly named MiG Blaze, is one of two squads sponsored by German media group Azubu. They were added to Maximum impact Gaming's roster after MiG Frost, now Azubu Frost, won the OnGameNet LoL Invitational.

On February 1, 2013, it was reported that Blaze, along with sister-team Frost, would not renew their contracts with the Azubu organization after their contracts' expiration on February 4.[1] After the expiration of their contract with Azubu, they were signed by CJ Entus and are now known as CJ Entus Frost and CJ Entus Blaze.

History[]

Formation of MiG Blaze[]

Shortly before the OnGameNet LoL Invitational tournament, the Korean team Maximum Impact Gaming would expand their team by adding a second squad called MiG Blaze. Blaze was originally formed to help foster growth between themselves and MiG Frost by having a solid practice partner for both teams.

Season 2[]

Though many considered MiG Blaze simply a training partner for the MiG Frost squad, Blaze would quickly establish their dominance, shocking many spectators by taking first place at the Azubu The Champions Spring 2012 tournament. MiG Blaze would go 2-0 in group play by defeating Team Hunters and StarTale. In the playoffs, Blaze would take out Counter Logic Gaming Prime 2-0 in the quarterfinals and Team OP 3-1 in the semifinals, advancing to the grand finals against their sibling team MiG Frost. Coming in as the underdogs, MiG Blaze would surprise the League of Legends community by sweeping MiG Frost 3-0 to take first place.

Sponsorship by Azubu[]

On June 22, 2012, MiG Frost and MiG Blaze would be sponsored by German media group Azubu. Under their new sponsor, the two teams would change their names to Azubu Frost and Azubu Blaze.

Season 2[]

Azubu Blaze's first event outside of Korea would be at the MLG 2012 Summer Arena. At the event, Azubu Blaze would go 8-1, taking out Team SoloMid, Curse Gaming, and Team BLACK to take first at the event. Azubu Blaze would suffer their only loss against North American Curse Gaming.

Back home in Korea, Azubu Blaze would compete in the Azubu The Champions Summer 2012. In the group stage they would display impressive play, going 3-0 against GJR, NaJin Shield, and Team WE. In the quarterfinals of the playoffs, Azubu Blaze would continue their dominant streak by taking out Xenics Storm 2-0. At the semifinals, Azubu Blaze would be matched up against their sibling team Azubu Frost, where unfortunately they would be unable to make a repeat performance, falling to Azubu Frost 2-3 in a close set. In the third place match, Azubu Blaze would fall to NaJin Sword 0-2 to end the event with a fourth place finish.

On September 21 of 2012, Azubu Blaze would participate in the Season Two Regional Finals - Seoul. Seeded directly in the finals, Azubu Blaze would lose to NaJin Sword in a 2-3 upset.

Pre-Season 3[]

Azubu Blaze would attend IPL 5 in Las Vegas on November 29 through December 2. Touted as the tournament favorites before the games, Blaze would face surprisingly stiff opposition from the start of the tournament, dropping 1-2 in the group stages and falling directly into the lower brackets. They were defeated by the eventual champions Team WE and the rising European squad FnaticRC, but defeated Team Dynamic. In the lower brackets they would dispatch the Thailand team Blackbean in two dominating performances, and then sweep Team Solo Mid 2-0, extending their win streak against the NA team to 7 games. However they were outmatched in round 3 against Moscow 5, finishing their tournament run in a 1-2 series. Azubu Blaze would place 7th-8th, taking home $1,750.

Departure From Azubu[]

On February 1, 2013, it was reported that Blaze, along with sister-team Frost, would not renew their contracts with the Azubu organization after the contracts' expiration on February 4.[1]
