Royce "Bubbadub" Newcomb began playing video games at the age of 8 with Nintendo. His name stuck from a character friend who made it for him in Everquest. He changed it from Bubba to Bubbadub during his World of Warcraft days because Bubba was a name that was frequently taken. He was a collegiate Starcraft league player for two seasons and a semi-pro Starcraft 2 player while he finished up school. He always wanted to be a pro gamer, but if that wasn't possible, then he was going to get a job working in electrical engineering.
During the Starcraft 2 beta downtimes his ROOT clanmates were playing League of Legends a bit. Initially he really liked the idea but didn't make the switch due to his commitments in Starcraft 2. The first champion he mained was Corki. Bubbadub made a team named Reality Check Gaming out of high ranked solo queue players. They qualified for a few Challenger-level tournaments but were never extremely notable. After Reality Check Gaming disbanded, Bubbadub got tryouts for several mid-high tier challenger teams and ultimately joined TBD, replacing former support NydusHerMain, who moved to ggLA.
TBD qualified for the spring promotion tournament in the spring but lost 3-0 to Evil Geniuses. However, their performance drew them the attention of compLexity, and they were sponsored by the organization to form the team compLexity.Black. As coL.Black, they participated in both the first and second NA Challenger spring series, and then in the playoffs qualified for the summer promotion tournament. There, they defeated Team Coast 3-1 and qualified for the summer split. After compLexity dropped sponsorship of compLexity.Red, Bubbadub's team became the flagship compLexity Gaming roster.
In the summer split, compLexity finished in last place with a 10-18 record, one game behind Evil Geniuses. In relegation hey were forced to play against Team 8 for their spot in the spring season, and they lost the series 2-3.
In early November 2014, compLexity once again formed two rosters, this time coL.White and coL.Black. Bubbadub joined coL.Black along with I KeNNy u, Xmithie, pr0lly, and ROBERTxLEE, qualifying for the Spring Expansion Tournament via compLexity's promotion tournament participation. After a bye in the first round, the team lost 0-2 to Final Five in the second round of the online portion tournament and were eliminated.
After the Expansion Tournament ended, Bubbadub retired from competitive League of Legends play.
Bubbadub joined Team Fusion as an analyst in April 2015, shortly before the team's games against Team Dignitas in the Summer Promotion tournament. After Fusion lost the series, the team disbanded, and Bubbadub then joined Cloud9 Tempest as their head coach. Seven weeks into the NA LCS Summer Season, Cloud9 decided to swap their coaches and moved Bubbadub to their main roster.
