The Hand of Baron is a team-wide neutral buff granted upon slaying the Baron NashorSquare.png Baron Nashor.

Notes

General

  • If your team defeats the Baron Nashor while you are dead, you will NOT receive the Hand of Baron.
  • The buff is identified by swirling violet runes around champions.
  • Comparably to  Crest of Insight and  Crest of Cinders, this buff cannot be transferred upon killing someone that holds it and will instead simply disappear.
  • The value of the bonus AD and AP is set at the moment your team kills Baron Nashor and does not increase over time.
  • Cannon minions buffed by Hand of Baron will never enter turret range while attacking a turret and will instead remain outside of it.
  • Super minions do not receive 75% reduced damage from area of effect and damage over time abilities and attacks.

Empowered Recall

  • Baron buff reduces recall channel by 4 seconds.
  • A successful recall heals 50% a champion's maximum health / mana
  • A successful recall grants +50% movement speed for 8 seconds

Minions Bonuses

  • All Minions:
    • Now match 90% of average movement speed of nearby champions, up to a limit of 500 movement speed
    • Are resistant to slow effects
    • Non-super minions have 75% damage reduction versus area of effect, damage over time, and persistent effects
  • Melee Minions:
    • Gain +50% movement speed when within 800 units of enemy minions or turrets
    • Size is increased
    • +75 attack range
    • 70% damage reduction versus champions
    • 75% damage reduction versus minions
  • Ranged Minions:
    • +20 attack damage
    • +50% missile speed
    • +100 attack range
    • 70% damage reduction versus champions
  • Cannon Minions:
    • +600 Attack Range
    • +50 Attack Damage, but Attack Speed is halved
    • Attacks are now Area of Effect (200 range) and deal 2x damage to Turrets.
  • Super Minions:
    • +25% Attack Speed.
    • Gain +50% Movement Speed when within 800 units of enemy minion or Turret.

Trivia

  • The buff's icon is reused from one of Averdrian's abilities. This champion briefly appeared on the public beta environment before disappeared and being confirmed as cancelled in 2010.
  • This buff used to be named Exalted with Baron Nashor.

Patch 8.23

Minion health, AD, and movement speed scaling increased. Cannon minions spawn faster earlier in the game.

Baron buff is meant to enable game-ending pushes, but it's become near-mandatory for a team to close out a match. We're making minion waves more effective at supporting sieges on their own so teams with huge advantages don't have to wait on Baron's respawn timer to end the game.

Patch 8.4
Baron buff bonus ability power increased. Baron buff stats increase more later in the game. Baron buff now buffs caster minions' durability.

Late game Baron buffs should be hugely impactful, allowing a team which takes them to successfully siege those tough inhibitor turrets. It doesn't look like it's doing its job well enough, so we're bumping up the damage it provides as the game goes later (especially ability power), and boosting its minion buffs.

Minion buffs

A LARGE BUFF-FIX : Fixed a bug where bonus attack damage (ex. Hand of Baron's +50 and Banner of Command's +100) wasn't affecting empowered siege minion attacks against structures at all. This is twice as impactful as it sounds, since empowered siege minions deal double damage to turrets.
CASTER MINION DURABILITY Empowered caster minions now take 50% less damage from champions
BUGFIX : Hand of Baron's area-of-effect damage reduction buff on minions now properly reduces damage from Runaan's Hurricane bolts

Nothing too fancy, just amping Baron’s buff duration to ensure it’s worth consideration when trading end-game objectives (like maybe an all-powerful Elder Dragon).

Unfortunately, this makes outlasting or enduring a Baron buffed team pretty tough, so we're lowering its duration to maintain its clear identity without teams getting steamrolled as soon as it lands."

Baron Rewards
Baron buff no longer gives regeneration to the buffed team, but provides a minion promote aura that amps up sieging power. By a lot.

"Baron buff was always intended to be the siege-breaker; the ultimate answer to a team turtling and refusing to die. That's not to say that the present day Baron buff doesn't accomplish this goal, but it currently does so in a low-impact swirl of purple stats (and not much else). As such, our objective with the 2015 Baron buff is to trim power that doesn't feel impactful while adding it back in a way that says, "GO FORTH AND BUST DOWN THEIR WALLS." Hopefully that is now all you hear when you take down Baron. "
