Illinois State University (Also known as Illinois State or ISU), is a university located in Normal, Illinois. Its esports program is called Redbird Esports.

History[edit]

Redbird Esports functioned as a registered organization until it was announced in October of 2019 that Varsity Esports would be coming to ISU in Fall 2020. The program would be housed in Student Affairs and under the leadership of Campus Recreation. Redbird Esports has four ways to engage in esports. The first option is Varsity Esports, new in Fall 2020. The second option is participating in the club program, currently housing 14 unique gaming and nerd culture related clubs. The third option is casual gaming and gaming leagues (intramurals). The fourth option is the Redbird Esports Network (REN). REN serves as a student-led, esports entrepreneurial start-up focusing on social media and marketing, technology and digital development, events and outreach, and broadcast and production.
