Club Atlético River Plate, commonly known as River Plate, is an Argentine professional sports club based in the Núñez neighborhood of Buenos Aires, founded on 25 May 1901, and named after the English name for the city's estuary, Río de la Plata. Although many sports are practiced at the club, River Plate is best known for its professional football team.
In October 2016, the club announced the project River Plate Esports, presenting its first-ever professional esports player, Franco "Frano" Colagrossi, a Pro Evolution Soccer player who also plays FIFA.
Following the announcment by the LVP about the increase of the Liga Master Flow to 10 teams, they announced on December 2019 that one of the teams joining the competition will be River Plate. The incorporation of River Plate to the LVP is part of a plan that seeks to position itself in new markets and generate new audiences, as they were the first Argentine professional sports club to enter the competitive professional scene, a non-precedent event in the professionalism of the esports scene in Argentina.
