  • Biography
  • Previous Bio
Most would say that death isn't funny. It isn't, unless you're Shaco - then it's hysterical. He is Valoran's first fully functioning homicidal comic; he jests until someone dies, and then he laughs. The figure that has come to be known as the Demon Jester is an enigma. No one fully agrees from whence he came, and Shaco never offers any details on his own. A popular belief is that Shaco is not of Runeterra - that he is a thing from a dark and twisted world. Still others believe that he is the demonic manifestation of humanity's dark urges and therefore cannot be reasoned with. The most plausible belief is that Shaco is an assassin for hire, left to his own lunatic devices until his services are needed. Shaco certainly has proven himself to be a cunning individual, evading authorities at every turn who might seek him for questioning for some horrendous, law-breaking atrocity. While such scuttlebutt might reassure the native inhabitants of Valoran, it seems unimaginable that such a malevolent figure is allowed to remain at large.

Whatever the truth of his history might be, Shaco is a terrifying, elusive figure most often seen where madness can openly reign.

Whatever you do, don't tell him you missed the punch line.

-  Twisted Fate

They say that death isn't funny. It isn't, unless you're Shaco. He is Valoran's first fully-functioning homicidal comic; he jests until someone dies, and then he laughs. The figure that has come to be known as the Demon Jester is an enigma. No one still alive knows whence he came. There are rumors, but one must not speak of them too loudly lest Shaco come to jest. It seems unimaginable that such a threatening figure would be allowed to remain at large. There are those that believe he is an assassin for hire, left to roam until he is needed. Others believe that Shaco is simply too clever, evading authorities at every turn. Still others believe that he is the demonic manifestation of humanity's dark urges, and therefore cannot be stopped.
Whatever you do, don't tell him you missed the punch line.

Patch History

Passive attack damage scaling down. Q base damage removed, cooldown increased. Q's ability power ratio moved to Passive.

Shaco's mini-update brought him to the fore as one of the most prominent junglers in solo queue, with some cameos in pro play to boot. He’s currently dealing a frustrating amount of damage in the instant he comes out of invisibility, considering most of it’s impossible to avoid (especially from you, AD Shaco). We’re bringing his surprise burst back down to more reasonable levels.

Backstab.png Passive - Backstab

ABILITY POWER RATIO 0.4 ability power
ATTACK DAMAGE RATIO : [1.2-1.45 total attack damage (at levels 1-11)] 1.3 total attack damage at all levels

Deceive.png Q - Deceive

BASE DAMAGE No longer has 20/35/50/65/80 base damage
ABILITY POWER RATIO No longer has an 0.4 ability power ratio
COOLDOWN : [14 seconds at all ranks] 16/15.5/15/14.5/14 seconds

v6.24 (Mid-Patch Updates)

Shaco’s burst damage is too high - especially AP Shaco's. It’s one thing to have a high-damage combo, but Shaco’s ability to murder from stealth doesn’t give opponents enough time to react.

Deceive.png Q - Deceive

RATIO : [0.5] 0.4 ability power

Two-Shiv Poison.png E - Two-Shiv Poison

ABILITY POWER RATIO : [0.9] 0.75 ability power
ATTACK DAMAGE RATIO : [0.85] 0.75 bonus attack damage

Hallucinate.png R - Hallucinate

CLONE EXPLOSION DAMAGE : [300/450/600] 200/300/400

Buff-fixes for Backstab.

Cleaning up a few quirks where Backstab wasn’t doing what you’d expect it to.

Backstab.png Passive - Backstab

BETTER CRIT’ING : If the attack that procs Backstab would critically strike normally, it now deals normal crit damage rather than Backstab’s reduced crit damage
THUNDERSTAB : Fixed a bug where Backstab wasn’t stacking Thunderlord’s Decree

R leaves a nest of Jack-in-the-boxes on death. W has more health.

While Shaco’s changelist may appear large, the goals are actually very simple: dialing back his extremes. Shaco’s well known for ending games quickly - either by dominating so hard one team surrenders, or failing to convert those beginning minutes and quickly diminishing in effectiveness. We’re reducing the power of Shaco’s frustrating early ganks and translating that power into more utility within skirmishes. By shifting when exactly Shaco can impact a game most, we’re making him more accessible to the average player while letting the trained Shaco mains out there display their dominance (without causing as many broken keyboards).

NEST HEALTH : Gains 210-950 bonus health (from levels 6-18)

Backstab displays a separate damage number.

When champions can turn front or back on a dime, knowing when someone’s facing towards or away from you can be a bit of a challenge. Cassiopeia’s Petrifying Gaze gets around this by showing you some pretty clear feedback - ‘are they stunned? Guess they were facing me.’ For Shaco, this isn’t always so simple. Factor in all the different ways that Shaco can amplify his basic attacks (critical strike, Deceive’s bonus damage, sheen, etc) and you can lose track of whether or not you’re actually backstabbing pretty quickly. This is a very long context to say something pretty simple: if you see more sets of numbers, you’re doing it right.

Backstab.png Passive - Backstab

STAB CLARITY : Now shows the bonus damage from Backstab separately when applied

Hallucination gets some nice improvements, and E slows monster attack speed rather than causing them to miss.

This might look like the longest set of changes Shaco's gotten in a million years, but the actual gist of this is we're cleaning up a mechanic that doesn't make much sense (E making monsters miss, but only sometimes?) and making Hallucination more tricky, in line with our other clone changes this patch. Shaco might not see an insane boost in effectiveness, but to the 3 shaco masters out there - we salute you.

Two-Shiv Poison.png E - Two-Shiv Poison

WATCH WHERE YOU'RE SWINGING No longer causes monsters to miss Shaco 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% of the time
PUT A LITTLE POISON INTO IT Now slows the attack speed of monsters by 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% on-hit

Hallucinate.png R - Hallucinate

NOW YOU SEE ME Shaco's Hallucination will now display fake versions of Blue, Red, and Baron buffs
LOOK FOR THE ONE WITH THE KNIVES Hallucination now randomizes its facing on spawn (rather than always facing the same direction)
PULL THE STRINGS Now displays the Hallucination's remaining lifespan to Shaco only
