Overview   Match History

Vladimir, The Crimson Reaper is a Ranged AP Carry whose specialty is sustained damage. Vladimir can be built as a tanky caster due to Crimson Pact, which gives Vladimir health when he builds AP and vice versa. Transfusion is Vladimir's most constant single target ability, as well as his heal. A well-timed Sanguine Pool will allow Vladimir to dodge virtually any spell in the game. Tides of Blood deals magic damage to nearby enemies, while giving him an Empowered stack, which increases his regeneration and healing. Finally, Vladimir's ultimate is Hemoplague, which amplifies the incoming damage taken by enemies caught in its area of effect before dealing a burst of magic damage.

Description

Lore: There is a temple hidden in the mountains between Noxus and the Tempest Flats, where the secrets of an ancient and terrifying sorcery are kept. The area surrounding the temple is littered with the exsanguinated corpses of those who have mistakenly wandered too close. These served only to pique the curiosity of Vladimir, when - in his youth - he trekked through these mountains during his flight from Noxus. A day earlier, the teenaged Vladimir had brutally murdered two boys his age, for no better reason than to enjoy the intoxicating scarlet bloom that surged forth. He realized immediately that he would never be able to suppress his murderous desires, and if he remained in Noxus, his foul deeds were sure to catch up with him. Without hesitation, he abandoned the city-state, and journeyed south.

The trail of bodies led him to a crumbling stone temple. Inside he found an aging monk who appraised him with eyes of pure crimson. Vladimir surprised the monk by returning the wicked gaze with zeal. Recognizing the boy's sinister craving, the monk taught Vladimir how to manipulate and control the fluid of life, often practicing on passing travelers. When it came time for Vladimir to learn the final lesson, the monk warned that failure would result in death. Vladimir did not fail, but success bore a grisly surprise. During the ritual, every drop of the monk's blood was drawn from his body and fused with Vladimir's, imbuing him with his master's magical essence, and that of every hemomancer before him. Left alone and suddenly without purpose, Vladimir resolved to return to Noxus, determined to prove the supremacy of his craft. When the Noxian High Command observed the gruesome fates which befell the palace guards, they elected to avail themselves of Vladimir's unsavory talents.

"That which runs through you will run you through."

Patch Notes 7.9

Quote.png With Aegis of the Legion's old aura out of the game, squishy champions who were relying on it to give them enough magic resist find themselves a bit on the burstable side. Unquote.png

Patch Notes 7.3

Basic attacks are stronger and faster. Q deals more baseline damage; Crimson Rush bonus reduced to compensate.
Quote.png Though Vladimir has a point-and-click button as his main ability, his kit’s got some finnicky timing requirements that actually make him one of League’s most difficult-to-learn champions. The path to mastery should always be rewarding, but Vlad’s a completely different champion depending on which end of the MMR spectrum you’re looking at. That volatility means Vlad settles into “balance” for just one set of players at a time - when he’s fair at lower skill levels he dominates pro play, but if he’s brought in line for League’s higher tiers, the majority of the playerbase has little hope of winning. These changes are meant to introduce some level of consistency across the various flavors of Vlad. Improving his basic attack helps players who struggle to last-hit without meaningfully buffing veterans who have their farm game on lock. Additionally, shrinking the difference between basic Transfusion and its Crimson Rush version means Vlad players can still do well even if they haven’t mastered their Q timing yet. Narrowing these skill gaps puts us in a better position to balance around a ‘baseline’ Vladimir going forward, rather than having to choose which half of the playerbase gets the short end of the stick. Patch Notes 6.20

Q and E AP ratios up. Q minion healing down. E health scaling down.
Quote.png Vladimir is in quite the pickle right now. In competitive play, he’s seen several nerfs in a row and still remains a pretty dominant pick. And yet for the vast majority of players, Vladimir is struggling to keep up with other champions. Safety is much more abusable in organized play, and so we’re continuing to trim safety from Vladimir’s kit, but using that leeway to give him power in return. Vladimir puts himself at risk of being bursted the more he uses his abilities ` but can pull himself back from the brink of death (high sustain). Building tanky nullifies a lot of that gameplay by making Vladimir too hard to burst, resulting in an extremely safe champion. We want to continue to highlight the risk in Vladimir’s kit, and that means incentivizing him to build more damage, rather than relying on tank builds. Unquote.png

Patch Notes 6.18

Q’s empowered heal down. E cooldown up, but costs less.
Quote.png Vladimir’s midseason update focused on creating windows of meaningful interaction between Vlad and his opponents. Higher health costs on his abilities were meant to allow opponents to punish Vladimir for careless trades, but the Crimson Reaper’s gameplay isn’t currently delivering on that promise. Even when Vladimir suffers a bad trade, he gets to waveclear as a fallback while he sustains back up. We’re reducing Vladimir’s options while on the back foot, as well as how easily he recovers from punishment. Unquote.png

Patch Notes 6.16

Movement speed down. W cooldown up.
Quote.png Vladimir’s traditionally relied on Sanguine Pool to escape ganks, but Midseason added a bunch of extra escape tools for him to play with (Crimson Rush movement speed, Protobelt, Ghost buffs). It makes sense for Vlad to become insanely slippery once he’s invested in these options, but having great escapability from the get-go is making it feel like there’s never an opportunity to punish him when caught out of position. Patch Notes 6.14

  • Bugfix
    • Fixed some flickering in Blood Lord Vladimir’s R - Hemoplague cast visuals

Patch Notes 6.13

Passive ratio reverted to pre-rework. Q base damage down, but ratio up.
Quote.png Vladimir’s the latest in a series of champions piling on heaps of damage while purchasing almost entirely defensive items, but with a slight twist. Unlike Ekko or Fizz, Vlad’s at least intended to be a tanky nuisance. We don’t want Vlad to stop building defensively, we just want him to stop being so effective when that’s all he builds. We’re pulling back on some of our Midseason changes to get Vlad into a spot where he still feels like a sticky, sustained damage dealer - just not one that’s killing you with pure health items. Unquote.png

CrimsonPact.jpg Passive - Crimson Pact

Patch Notes 6.11

  • Bugfix
    • Restored voiceover lines for Vladimir’s Q - Transfusion and E - Tides of Blood

Patch Notes 6.10

R’s healing on champions increased. Q baits you less.
Quote.png Our resident blood-mage, Vladimir’s only partially living up to the expectations set in 6.9. Which is to say Vlad’s losing quite a lot of health, but not exactly gaining all of it back. Hemoplague promises a rewarding second wind for a well-placed ultimate, but falls short of being the lifeline necessary to enable Vlad’s health as a resource. We’re tuning back his risk/reward paradigm as well as some usability improvements to help Vladimir pull off the daring low-health plays he’s known for. Unquote.png
  • Transfusion.jpg Q - Transfusion
    • RIPE FOR THE PICKING: Crimson Rush’s particle now delays until just before Transfusion becomes available

    • HEALING VS CHAMPIONS: 50% of the damage dealt ⇒ 150/250/350 + 0.7 ability power, increased by 50% for each additional champion hit beyond the first

Patch Notes 6.9

Kicking off the Mage update, Vladimir’s changes are all about embracing his love of sustain and pushing it to the extreme. While Vlad’s high-stakes health management is compelling, his lack of windows for interaction (don’t be in range of Q) leaves opponents far less enthused. This is where many of Vlad’s balancing issues stem from. If Vlad’s too strong, he stat-checks you out of the lane, nullifying your aggression and healing it all right back. Following the same vein, a weak Vlad does most of the opponent’s job for them - damaging himself constantly while desperately trying to scale into the lategame. Enter Midseason. To support Vladimir’s eccentric tastes, we’re looking to inject more interaction into the Crimson Reaper’s rotation. Vladimir’s swings are much more dramatic - larger health costs yield greater damage and healing, but also greater risk. Timing’s more important for Vlad as well: Crimson Rush’s cadence means Transfusion’s persistent threat goes down, while Tides of Blood’s new positional requirement can make or break a close-quarters encounter. We’re all for enabling Vlad’s indulgent, drain-tanking fantasy - provided he can survive long enough for his second wind to start the sustain train all over again.
