Biography[]
Brandon "Mash" Phan's hometown is in Mississauga, Ontario in Canada. One of the very first players to hit 2000 ELO in season one, Mash (then known as DontMashMe) started off his League of Legends career by winning the very first 1v1 SoloMid.Net Tournament. Being successful in solo queue and having won a notable tournament at the time, DontMashMe formed a team with Lapaka called "Team Nice". As weeks passed the team ended up not working out and would disband.
Not long after Team Nice disbanded, DontMashMe was asked by LiQuiD112 to join Team XXX. With Team XXX, DontMashMe found success in various online tournaments, taking first in many NESL Go4LoL weekly and monthly cups. Shortly after taking first place in the More Cowbell 1v1 tournament, DontMashMe and the rest of Team XXX were picked up by unRestricted. UnRestricted Esports finished well in several online tournaments, and the roster was picked up by Curse Gaming on August 25, 2011.
DontMashMe's first LAN event was MLG Raleigh in August. Curse Gaming took fourth place after going 0-3 in pool play, falling to Counter Logic Gaming Prime, Epik Gamer, and Team SoloMid. Around one month after the event, DontMashMe decided to leave Curse Gaming instead of being a substitute player, after AD Carry Doublelift was brought onto the main lineup to replace him.[55]
In November 2011, DontMashMe joined Too Tricky with Patoy, Nubbypoohbear, I Will Dominate, and RicePanda. DontMashMe and Patoy were invited to join compLexity a few weeks later.[56] Team compLexity ended up falling apart two months later after top lane and jungler I Will Dominate moved to Team Dignitas.
Now teamless, DontMashMe decided to form a new team called Choppa In Da Car (CIDC). Not long after their formation, CIDC took first place in the Go4LoL Cup #45. After several months of playing together, DontMashMe's team underwent several roster changes with Jintae replacing chu8 and I Got a replacing Reidan. Despite being an underdog, CIDC knocked out Monomaniac and V8 in the IPL Killing Spree tournament.
DontMashMe was one of the invitees to play for and represent the East Coast in the IPL All Star Event SXSW Showmatch in Austin, TX. With teammates Lapaka, TreeEskimo, TakashiX, and Dyrus, DontMashMe swept the West Coast team 2-0 and took first place in the showmatch.
On April 6, 2012, DontMashMe played on Epik Gamer as a sub for IGN ProLeague Season 4 - Las Vegas. DontMashMe took home a 7th-8th place finish at the event after falling to Curse Gaming and v8 Esports.
Choppa In Da Car was picked up by Monomaniac and renamed to Monomaniac Dominatus. After Patoy left Monomaniac for Team Dignitas, DontMashMe joined Team SoloMid Evo to replace previous TSM Evo AD Carry Aphromoo.
On October 25, 2012, DontMashMe was officially announced as the AD carry for Team Dynamic, replacing zig.
A week before the Season 3 Spring Split Qualifier, DontMashMe and team parted ways with Team Dynamic and formed Good Game University (GGU). With Good Game University, DontMashMe was able to qualify for the Spring Split of the League Championship Series. In the spring split, GGU finished 11-17 and barely qualified for the playoffs. During the playoffs, Good Game University upset both Dignitas and Team Curse before falling to Team SoloMid and receiving second place and a spot in the summer split.
Before the summer split, the GGU changed their name to Team Coast. Coast met little success in the summer, finishing seventh with a 9-19 record. Come the end of the season, DontMashMe officially retired from the team and competitive League of Legends. Coast's replacement AD carry would be WizFujiiN.
2015 Preseason[]
Coast gave up their Expansion Tournament qualification due to losing three members of the team that had played in the Promotion Tournament. However, they qualified via the Challenger ladder with the top seed, ahead of Enemy eSports. Coast easily went through the online stage of the tournament, defeating Call Gaming and LoLPro both 2-0. Matched against Curse Academy in the live tournament, they lost in the first round 3-1 but then beat Final 5 3-1 and Team Fusion 3-2 and qualified for the Spring 2015 LCS. Their starting roster going into the 2015 season included Cris, Impaler, Jesiz, Mash, and Sheep.
2015 Season[]
After a 1-1 record in the first week of play, Coast lost their remaining spring split games and ended the split with a 1-17 record, automatically relegated to the NACS. In the NACS, they won the round robin, beating Renegades in a tiebreaker match, and then placed second in the playoffs, qualifying them to the Promotion Tournament. With Team Imagine chosen by Team 8, Coast played Enemy and won 3-0, returning to the LCS for the 2016 Spring Season.
2016 Season[]
Mash joined Team Impulse in January 2016, as part of a completely rebuilt roster. Facing visa problems for the first few weeks of play, their roster was unstable until week 4 of the Spring Season. After some early success with their substitute rosters, especially with Seraph in top lane, TIP ended the season in 9th place, losing a 5-13 record tiebreaker to Renegades based on their head-to-head matchup.
In the Promotion Tournament, Team Impulse requalified for the Summer Season with a 3-1 win over the Challenger team Apex Gaming; however, on May 8 they were faced with a competitive ruling banning them from continued participation in the LCS due to not paying their players on time and also not having proper contracts in place with players. The team was also fined $20,000 by Riot.[57]
Along with Pirean and Gate, Mash joined the organization that purchased Team Impulse's NA LCS Summer Season seed, Phoenix1.[58] Faced with visa problems for intended starting jungler Inori, the team was forced to add a substitute jungler Zentinel to their roster, who competed for them for the first three weeks. In that time, Phoenix1 lost all of their series and won only two games total, cementing themselves in last place, behind Echo Fox. Their winless streak continued after Inori's return and through their first series of the fifth week, at which point they had a 3-18 game record and 0-9 series record. In the second series of that week, however, they picked up their first series win against Apex Gaming, with a comeback 2-1 victory after dropping the first game. After this first win, their record improved significantly, and in the second half of the season they went a combined 5-4 - not enough to keep them out of relegations, but enough to surpass both Echo Fox and NRG in the standings for a top seed in the promotion tournament, where they requalified for the LCS with an easy 3-0 win over Echo Fox.
