Tectonic was an Australian/New Zealand based team.
The license originated when the Chiefs Black OCS team promoted into the OPL after a successful promotion tournament eliminating Infernum Gaming . Chiefs already having an OPL license were required to sell, and a new investor allowed the Tainted Minds organization (previously a successful COD and CSGO organization) to purchase this license.
Their first split was marred with drama, and they faced significant roster issues. After a Ruling by Riot resulted in a fine, they continued in the OPL, but internally Tainted Minds allowed the original investor to take the OPL license into a new organization temporarily dubbed TM Gaming Tainted Minds organization. This was unannounced and the TM Gaming organization played the OPL 2017 Split 2 simply being referred to as 'TM', or 'TM Gaming' by Riot casters.
In December 2017 the organization rebranded to Tectonic OPL 2018 Split 1 .
